Water Mill (Jesmond Dene)

The water mill is thought to have existed since the 13th century. It was owned in 1795 by a family of millers called Freeman and the 1841 cenus shows the mill as being occupied by Patrick Freeman aged 20. The mill was later sold to Lord Armstrong who did not use it as a working mill and it fell into disrepair. In 1981 Newcastle City Council decided to maintain the mill as a controlled ruin.
