Brunswick Methodist Church

The Brunswick Methodist Church in Newcastle was built in 1820 and it is a grade 2 listed building. A number of Methodist chapels built in the eighteenth century were named Brunswick and this is thought to have been an expression of loyalty towards the royal family, The Prince Regent had married Princess Caroline of Brunswick in 1795 and John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church, urged loyalty to the church and state.

Today the Brunswick Methodist Church is involved with various projects in Newcastle such as the Listening Post which is open daily 10 – 3 Monday to Saturday, the International Students Centre which provides support to overseas students, and Street Pastors who offer support and kindness to those in need on the streets of Newcastle.
