Tucked away in the North West corner of St Andrew’s cemetery is Jesmond Community Orchard. I came across it quite by chance while wandering around the cemetery and found myself in an oasis of calm surrounded by fruit trees.
The Orchard was started in 2009 following a meeting by local residents to see if there would be any interest in such a venture and a suitable site was allocated in a corner of the cemetery previously used for storage. By December 2009 the first fruit trees were planted.
